Synopsis
A playful 100-minute collage tracing 50 years of rock ’n’ roll in American and English cinema, films that not only integrated rock ’n’ roll into their soundtracks, but into the very heart of their scenarios, that incorporated distinctive staging and often boasted the presence of one or more rock stars.
Careful preparations required the attentive viewing of almost 400 feature films, with about 100 making the cut. Edited together to follow a fun and irreverent chronology, this program bears witness to the evolution of the genre, and the proliferation of subgenres specific to each passing musical moment. Included are of course some well-known films, but also a number of films that are more obscure but equally enjoyable. Rock is more than rebellion, it is a mythology with its own history, visual codes, language and stars.
